Skin Clearing Smoothie!
I’ve come to the conclusion that even if you are lucky enough to be blessed with good skin genes, we all fall curse to break-outs due to a number of reasons including lifestyle, hormonal and stress related factors. Lately, I fell curse to the latter. Every-day stresses, running around after my adorable and very active three old, working on the business and working late nights all took their toll and my skin was breaking out as a result. Now I wish to point out it was nothing major, but it was becoming a regular occurrence and something I wanted to nip in the bud sooner rather than later!
Now I love all my lotions and potions as much as the next girl but instead of vamping up my skincare routine like I normally would, I decided to tackle it internally first. Introducing the kale and spinach smoothie!
Now, if this doesn’t sound too appetizing don’t worry we will add some ingredients in that make it a bit more appealing to the taste buds! Firstly introduce Manuka honey, then add avocado (which is rich in Vitamin E and important for hydrating and healing properties) and low fat milk or yoghurt depending on your preference , or if you have any lactose intolerance this can be left out , I use it more to obtain the smoothie constituency but any non-dairy milk can be used also.
Given the fact that spinach is an excellent source of antioxidant nutrients — including vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids & vital for skin health), and manganese —as well as a very good source of the antioxidant zinc and a good source of the antioxidant selenium—it’s no wonder that spinach is so beneficial to skin health. Kale on the other hand, is a great anti-inflammatory food which will instantly calm down any blemishes or acne. One cup of kale is filled with 10% of the RDA of omega-3 fatty acids, which help, fight against numerous disease, help balance hormones and will leave your skin feeling silky smooth.
I made a batch of this including all the ingredients mentioned above, and drank over a period of five days and by the fourth day any break-outs or blemishes I had disappeared and my skin tone definitely improved! I would definitely recommend this if you wanted to improve your skin health and overall health. Even just making it, I feel healthier! 🙂
