Hot off the press from New York Fashion Week this week, we were intrigued to see Victoria Beckham’s S/S17 collection entailed velvet fabrics , which is setting a new sartorial trend for next Spring/Summer. We usually associate the luxurious material with the colder climates of Winter, however these pieces are beautifully entwined with flowing fabric and romantic overtones.
Before the ready-to wear collections lands on our shores next Spring, we do see velvet themes sartorially making their way , as they do every year, into our winter-wear wardrobes.
What we love most about this luxurious fabric is that it is now available in spectrum of colours, helping us avoid the darker muted palettes that we would usually adorn in the colder seasons. We love this silver grey velvet Cami Belted Dress from Dolly and Bella, which can be styled beautifully for a night out with strappy heels or layer it up with a jumper for the cooler climates. You can buy this dress here.
Keep accessories to a minimum with velvet as the tones and setting of the fabric will be enough to make your outfit stand out alone. Another good point to note is to try and not be too matchy matchy with velvet as it can be sartorial overkill!
Velvet is also making a stamp with regards to footwear this season, we adore these velvet braided sandals from Marco De Vincenzo.
